📖 Storytime: Lighting the Way – Lewis Latimer

Lewis Latimer Middle Thinkers

Lewis Latimer didn’t just see a light bulb, he saw an opportunity to improve it. In 1881, Lewis Latimer’s patent introduced a carbonized cotton-thread filament, wound under tension inside an evacuated glass bulb. This filament resisted breakage and lasted hundreds of hours, a major leap beyond Edison’s early carbon rods. Latimer’s work helped electric lighting become reliable enough for everyday use.
